A five-day (22-26 August 2022) training program on Mushroom Production Techniques and Post-Harvest Management was organized at the National Horticultural Research and Development Foundation, New Delhi.
In the training program, trainees from different states such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi participated.
Dr. B.K. Pandey, Assistant Director General (Retd.), Udayan, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, served as the chief guest for the event. The institute's director, Dr. PK Gupta, welcomed the chief guest, who while addressing the trainees said that by taking this training farmers can do mushroom production business which is in great demand in today's time. Along with this he also discussed in detail about food security, nutritional security, and economic security.
He further talked about some farming-related businesses such as mushroom cultivation, bee keeping, and how to dispose of the waste products of agriculture like paddy straw and wheat straw by not burning them.
Addressing the program, the Director said that by taking training on mushroom production, farmers and unemployed people can adopt self-employment and get maximum income from their own businesses.
He also talked about why it is important to eat mushrooms and what are the benefits of eating it. He elaborated on this and also talked about the importance of mushrooms and the usefulness of their cultivation in the surrounding areas. Dr. Rajneesh Mishra, Deputy Director (Horticulture), Manoj Shrivastava, Deputy Director, PK Rameshbabu, Deputy Director Sanjay Singh, Assistant Director, Dr. SK Tiwari, Senior Technical Officer, and S.C. Tiwari Senior technical officers also participated in this event.
In this training program, Senior Technical Officer SC Tiwari also shared information about the cultivation of different varieties of mushroom like button mushroom, oyster mushroom, milky mushroom, shiitake mushroom, and reishi mushroom and how to manage diseases in mushroom cultivation.
In this training, experienced scientists of IARI Pusa came to the NHRDF campus and gave several useful advices to the trainees. During the training program, a mushroom field tour was also conducted at HAIC, Murthal, Sonipat.
