No Scarcity of Urea for Current Rabi Season in Punjab

There is no scarcity of urea in Punjab as 85 percent of the fertilizer has already been provided to the farmers in current Rabi season. According to reports, the state needs 12.50 lakh tonnes of urea in ongoing Rabi season till 31st January 2019 and 10.60 lakh tonnes of urea has already reached Punjab. While another 40,000 metric tonnes will reach there in the next 4 days. The balance amount of urea has already been tied up to arrive in the upcoming days.

There is no scarcity of urea in Punjab as 85 percent of the fertilizer has already been provided to the farmers in current Rabi season.

According to reports, the state needs 12.50 lakh tonnes of urea in ongoing Rabi season till 31st January 2019 and 10.60 lakh tonnes of urea has already reached Punjab. While another 40,000 metric tonnes will reach there in the next 4 days. The balance amount of urea has already been tied up to arrive in the upcoming days.

Meanwhile, adequate quantity of urea has also been made available in Cooperative Societies of Punjab. 5.04 Lac tons i.e. 87% of urea have already been supplied to the cooperative societies, as against the total demand of 5.81 lakh tons of Urea in the sector.

In the present Rabi season, wheat has been planted in about 35 lakh hectares in the state and the application of urea in wheat plant will continue till 31st January.

Moreover, the state government is closely checking the supplies as well as sales of urea to the farmers in Punjab and there is no question of any scarcity, said a spokesman.
