The Central Government made an announcement on Thursday that it will be providing its employees with an extra 42 days of casual leave. The purpose of this new policy is to allow adequate recovery time for those who choose to donate organs, and it replaces the previous limit of 30 days for such exceptional leaves. The decision was made by the Modi government, which acknowledges the significance of giving employees enough time to recuperate following major surgeries.

In a recent directive issued by the Personnel Ministry, it was stated that the process of organ removal from a donor is a significant surgical procedure that requires a considerable period of recovery, including hospitalization and post-hospitalization phases.

As a means of promoting the noble act of organ donation among central government employees and for the general welfare of the public, the ministry has decided to grant eligible employees up to 42 days of special casual leave. This decision acknowledges the significant impact of donating organs to another person and the importance of providing employees with sufficient time to recover from the procedure.

The ministry hopes that this new policy will encourage more central government employees to consider donating their organs to help others in need.

The statement highlights that the typical procedure for availing of special casual leave is to take it all at once, starting from the day of hospital admission for surgery. However, the directive permits eligible employees to start this leave up to a week prior to the surgery, based on the recommendation of a government-registered medical practitioner or doctor. Additionally, the treating physician or doctor may suggest flexibility in taking the leave or splitting it, which will be allowed as per the directive.
