Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Surat Food Security Saturation Campaign in Limbayat, aiming to strengthen food security for the underprivileged. During the event, he distributed benefits under the National Food Security Act to over 2.3 lakh beneficiaries, including elderly citizens, widows, and differently-abled individuals.

Addressing the gathering, Modi praised Surat’s unique spirit of mutual support and progress, emphasizing the city's role in setting an example for other regions. He highlighted that the Surat Food Security Saturation Campaign would serve as an inspiration for districts nationwide, ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing essential resources. The campaign, he noted, is driven by a vision of inclusivity, moving beyond appeasement politics to ensure equitable distribution of benefits.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the extensive efforts made by the Surat administration in identifying over 2.5 lakh new beneficiaries, including elderly individuals, widows, and differently-abled citizens. He congratulated them for being included in the initiative, underscoring the government’s commitment to reaching those in need. Modi also expressed a deep personal connection to the challenges faced by the underprivileged, emphasizing that his understanding of their struggles comes from experience rather than books. He reiterated that the government has been working relentlessly to eliminate food insecurity, particularly through initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, which ensured continued food support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Highlighting the crucial role of nutrition in national development, Modi detailed government schemes aimed at tackling malnutrition and anemia. The PM Poshan Scheme provides nutritious meals to 12 crore school children, while the Saksham Anganwadi Program focuses on the well-being of young children, mothers, and pregnant women. Additionally, the PM Matru Vandana Yojana supports pregnant women financially to enable better nutrition, strengthening the foundation of a healthier society.

Cleanliness and hygiene were also key points in Modi’s address, where he lauded Surat’s efforts in maintaining sanitation. He stressed the significance of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in reducing diseases, particularly in rural areas. The "Har Ghar Jal" campaign, led by C.R. Patil, was another initiative he highlighted, ensuring access to clean drinking water and contributing to improved public health.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the far-reaching impact of the government’s free ration scheme, which has significantly improved the lives of millions. He pointed out that the digitalization of the ration distribution system and linking it to Aadhaar has eliminated over five crore fake ration cards, ensuring that rightful beneficiaries receive their due share. The "One Nation, One Ration Card" scheme has further empowered migrant workers, allowing them to access their entitlements from anywhere in the country, a step that has notably benefited Surat’s large workforce.

Reflecting on the government’s decade-long mission to empower the poor, Modi highlighted initiatives such as the provision of concrete homes, toilets, gas connections, and tap water. He emphasized that schemes like Ayushman Bharat have extended free medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh to nearly 60 crore Indians, while government-backed insurance schemes have provided financial security to over 36 crore people. These efforts, he noted, have helped lift 25 crore people out of poverty in the past decade.

Modi also recalled the past struggles of small business owners and street vendors, who previously found it difficult to secure financial assistance. He reiterated how his government took personal responsibility for guaranteeing loans under the Mudra Yojana, enabling nearly Rs 32 lakh crore in collateral-free loans to support entrepreneurs. The PM SVANidhi Yojana has further assisted street vendors, offering them access to formal credit and breaking the cycle of debt to moneylenders. The recently announced special credit card for workers and the PM Vishwakarma Yojana for traditional artisans were also mentioned as vital steps toward financial inclusion and skill enhancement.

Recognizing the contributions of the middle class, particularly in Surat, Modi spoke about the government’s tax relief measures, including zero tax on income up to Rs 12 lakh and exemptions up to Rs 12.87 lakh for employees. He stressed that these steps empower the middle class to invest in their future and contribute further to the country’s growth.

Surat’s status as an economic powerhouse, particularly in textiles, chemicals, and engineering, was also acknowledged. Modi highlighted key infrastructure projects such as the new integrated terminal at Surat Airport, the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and the Surat Metro project. He noted that these developments would enhance the city’s connectivity, making it one of the best-linked urban centers in the country and improving the quality of life for residents.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Modi encouraged women across the country to share their inspiring stories via the NaMo app. He announced that he would hand over his social media accounts to some of these women, recognizing their contributions to society. He also shared his plans to attend a women’s empowerment event in Navsari, reaffirming the government’s commitment to gender equality.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Surat’s significance as a mini India and a shining example of progress on the global stage. He congratulated all beneficiaries of the ongoing initiatives and expressed confidence that Surat would continue to lead in economic growth, social development, and community-driven success.
