Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday, July 17, 2025, attended the fourth convocation ceremony of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University in Pusa, Bihar, where he underscored the role of young agricultural graduates in shaping the future of Indian farming.
On his visit, the minister inaugurated the newly built Vikramshila Hostel and Aryavart International Guest House and also released two important publications focusing on Bihar’s agricultural legacy and the growing relevance of natural farming.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Chouhan described Samastipur as the gateway to Mithilanchal, calling it the sacred land of King Janak and Goddess Sita, and praised Bihar’s deep-rooted contributions to Indian history, culture, and agriculture. Remembering national icons like Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Karpoori Thakur, he described the state as a land of talent and hard work that has historically led the way in social and agricultural transformation.
Union Minister called upon graduating students to use their knowledge to revolutionise Indian agriculture, urging them to work with determination and contribute to sustainable and modern farming practices. “You are a reservoir of infinite potential,” he said, quoting Swami Vivekananda, and encouraged students to align their careers with national development goals in agriculture.
Chouhan also highlighted key achievements of the government in the agriculture sector over the past decade, including a 40% rise in foodgrain production, Basmati rice exports worth Rs 50,000 crore, and free foodgrain distribution to over 80 crore people. He praised Bihar’s progress in crops like maize, litchi, and makhana, and acknowledged the formation of the Makhana Board under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Describing farmers as the soul of India’s economy, he emphasised the importance of enhancing per-hectare productivity, promoting small-scale mechanisation, and fostering agri-startups. He called natural farming essential for restoring soil health and long-term sustainability in agriculture.
The Minister also spoke about the recently launched Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Yojana, under which 100 districts have been identified to improve agricultural output. During his visit, Chouhan inspected paddy fields where regenerative agriculture techniques are being used to reduce input costs, improve soil quality, and raise farmers' incomes.
