Promoting Scientific and Technical Cooperation between IISWC & IIRS

Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun and ISRO-Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun signed a MoU (for 10 Years, from 2018 to 2028) for promoting scientific and technical cooperation between both the organization in the field of Natural Resource Management(Particularly Soil and Water Conservation, Integrated Watershed Management, etc.) through developing collaborative research project, Scientists and Students exchange.

The Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (formerly known as Central Soil and Water Conservation Research and Training Institute), with the primary mandate of conservation of natural resources and having over 60 years of experience, has developed strategies for checking land degradation and improving land productivity on sustainable basis. It has successfully demonstrated a number of technologies in different agro-ecological regions in watershed mode through a network of eight Regional Centres in the country with headquarters at Dehradun.

Multidisciplinary research agenda of the Institute not only focuses on realizing higher productivity and ensuring food security, but also on maintaining and enhancing quality of natural resource base. The Institute also conducts short and long term capacity building and skill development training courses regularly for policy makers, NGOs, field functionaries and farmers in soil and water conservation and watershed management.

Dr P.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-IISWC and Dr Prakash Chauhan, Director, ISRO-IIRS were present on the occasion. However, (Dr P.R. Ojasvi has assumed the charge of Acting Director, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun w.e.f. July 01, 2018).
