Farmers from Punjab and Haryana are actively protesting for the second day near Chandigarh. The protest has been organized by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). It stems from longstanding demands, with a primary focus on securing a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Participants from various states have gathered in Mohali, Punjab, and Panchkula, Haryana, responding to a nationwide call for protest by the SKM. Despite robust security measures, farmers are engaged in a sit-in protest and plan to march to Chandigarh to meet with Governors and present their demands.

Harmeet Singh Kadian, a prominent farmer leader, informed reporters that representatives from all 32 farmer outfits of the SKM and Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) will meet the Punjab Governor to submit a memorandum on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, discussions about meeting the Governor of Haryana are ongoing, with a final decision expected on Tuesday morning, as conveyed by Darshan Pal, the coordinator of SKM.

The farmers' key demands extend beyond MSP legal assurance. They include the withdrawal of police cases filed during the 2020-21 agitation against the now-repealed agricultural laws, compensation and jobs for family members of farmers who lost their lives during the protests, and a comprehensive loan waiver.

Additionally, the farmers are calling for the withdrawal of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 and action against Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni in the Lakhimpur Kheri case. The protest underscores the ongoing concerns of the farming community and their determination to address these issues through dialogue and collective action.
