A pioneering effort in the realm of fisheries, Sagar Parikrama emerges as a groundbreaking initiative led by the Honorable Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying (FAHD), Government of India. This exceptional endeavor seeks to engage directly with fisherfolk, comprehending their challenges, exploring grassroots realities, advocating sustainable fishing practices, and ensuring the seamless delivery of government initiatives to the fishing community.

Commencing on the 1st of January 2024, the Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase X embarked on a transformative journey, casting its spotlight on Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in Nellore district and Kothapatnam in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. At the heart of this initiative was Parshottam Rupala, the esteemed Union Minister (FAHD), who, alongside public authorities, engaged fervently with fishermen and fisherwomen in Develapallepalem village, Kothapatnam. During this interaction, beneficiaries were honored with Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), replacement of boats and nets under the PMMSY scheme, aiming to empower those at the grassroots.

The second leg of this transformative journey witnessed the esteemed presence of Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, accompanied by several dignitaries, as they delved into discussions and interactions with various stakeholders at Vodarevu in Prakasam District. The enthusiasm of the local fishing community was palpable as they welcomed the Union Ministers and engaged actively, sharing success stories and embracing the significance of initiatives such as FFPO Certificates, Safety Kits, and the issuance of Kisan Credit Cards.

Moving forward, the expedition extended its reach to Nizampatnam Fishing Harbour in Bapatla District, resonating with warmth and positivity. Here, Parshottam Rupala, in an engaging discourse, interacted with diverse beneficiary groups, addressing concerns and exploring avenues for technological advancements in fisheries. The felicitation of beneficiaries with FFPO certificates, assets under the PMMSY scheme, and KCC further reinforced the commitment to uplift those engaged in the fishing industry.

The journey continued its impactful trajectory, reaching Gilakaladindi Fishermen village of Krishna District, and Machilipatnam Fishing Harbour, where the Union Minister fervently interacted with traditional fishermen, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the fisheries sector. These interactions were pivotal, focusing on bridging critical gaps within the fisheries value chain, aligning efforts toward a more robust and sustainable industry.

Approximately 9,500 fishermen, fisheries stakeholders, and scholars converged physically at various junctures of the Sagar Parikrama Phase X, highlighting the collective spirit and enthusiasm to drive transformative changes in the fishing community. The program, extending its reach to Bhimavaram in West Godavari District, promises further engagements with aqua-farmers, processing plant operators, and stakeholders, underlining a holistic approach towards nurturing and enhancing the fisheries ecosystem.

Beyond the ceremonies and interactions, the visit also included a significant excursion to an Aqua Farm at Nizampatnam, with plans underway for the establishment of an aqua park and disease diagnosis laboratory in the region, indicative of the long-term commitment to bolstering the fisheries infrastructure.

The Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase X stands as a testament to the government's unwavering dedication to fostering sustainable and inclusive growth in the fisheries sector, ensuring that the voices of fishermen and fisherwomen resonate in policy-making and transformative initiatives.
