Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, visited the ICAR–Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER) in Patna. The high-level visit was aimed at reviewing the institute’s research activities and its contribution to agricultural growth in Eastern India.

The visit began with a ceremonial tree plantation at the ICAR-RCER campus, where the ministers were joined by senior officials from both the central and state governments. During his address, Chouhan praised the scientific community for their efforts in uplifting the farming sector in the region and urged them to align their research with the national vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047.”

He stressed that scientific advancements should not remain confined to laboratories but must be translated into tangible benefits for farmers, particularly in the eastern region, which faces unique agricultural challenges.

Highlighting the importance of translational research, the Union Minister said scientific breakthroughs must reach the grassroots level and directly benefit farmers. He appreciated the role played by ICAR and its Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the recently concluded Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, calling it a historic collaboration between the Centre and the states to deliver science-backed solutions at the grassroots.

ICAR-RCER’s Acting Director, Dr Ashutosh Upadhyaya, briefed the dignitaries on the institute’s achievements and ongoing initiatives. He stated that the institute is focused on enhancing water productivity, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, and developing practical, low-cost technologies tailored for small and marginal farmers.

The visit also included a scientific interaction involving researchers from ICAR-RCER and ICAR-ATARI, Patna. Discussions centred on key areas such as natural farming, conservation agriculture, agrometeorological advisories, soil health, and future strategies for region-specific agriculture. Chouhan lauded the institute’s interdisciplinary approach and emphasized the need to intensify innovation and outreach to ensure that research outcomes effectively reach farmers.

The visit concluded with an exhibition showcasing crop varieties and technologies developed by the institute, offering a glimpse into the future of sustainable and inclusive agriculture in Eastern India.
