The head of the UN agency has warned that 13 million people are on the verge of facing starvation due to lack of funding in the World Food Program. David Beasley, the head of the UN agency said during an interview that Yemen's situation is worsening day by day.

More than 40% of its population is already relying on food supplies from World Food Program and now, the agency cannot afford to keep feeding those people because of a shortage of funds in the agency.

Current Situation of Yemen

Since the pandemic began, the pressure on the world food program has increased tremendously. 285 million people are entirely dependent on the world food program across the globe. According to the UN agency's statistics, 811 million people in the world do have enough food, and around 45 million people in 43 countries are headed towards famine. The food situation is only getting worse day by day, which makes it even more difficult for the World Food Program to aid Yemen's situation.

Due to the shortage of funds situation, the agency was forced to cut down the current 8 million Yemenis rations to half. The constant lack of funds is going to force the agency to cut down those numbers to zero. There is going to be a catastrophic situation in Yemen if that happens. The WFP needs around 9 billion dollars to meet the food demands across the globe.

Yemen has been fighting a civil war since 2014

Since the year 2014, Yemen has been fighting a civil war. In the capital Sanaa and most northern regions of the country, Iran-backed Houthi rebels took over.  The President of the country Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi was forced to flee to Saudi Arabia. The US-backed Saudi coalition entered the conflict in 2015,

despite the countless ground fightings and air campaigns, it did no good and caused a humanitarian crisis. The ongoing civil war has led millions of people to the path of starvation and destruction. The US has now withdrawn all of its direct involvement in the war since then.
