The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a week of significant weather activity over South India, while above-normal temperatures persist in the northwest region. Here are the details of the upcoming weather events and what to expect across various regions in India.

Weather Systems at Play

The current weather patterns are being influenced by two major systems:

  1. Cyclonic Circulation over Gulf of Mannar: Present in the lower tropospheric levels, affecting rainfall in nearby coastal areas.

  2. Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal: Positioned off the South Andhra Pradesh coast, impacting weather in Andhra Pradesh and adjacent regions.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in South India

Between October 30 and November 2, South Peninsular India is expected to experience substantial rainfall. The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in several areas, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning in the following regions:

  • Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and Karnataka: Rainfall likely from October 30 to November 2.

  • Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Telangana: Rainfall forecasted on October 30.

  • Rayalaseema: Showers expected on October 30 and 31.

Isolated Heavy Rainfall Alerts

Certain areas are under alert for isolated heavy rainfall:

  • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal: October 30 - November 2.

  • Kerala & Mahe: November 1 - 3.

  • South Interior Karnataka: October 31 - November 1.

Above-Normal Temperatures to Continue in Northwest India

Northwest India will continue to experience above-normal temperatures over the next week. Maximum and minimum temperatures in the region were recorded to be 3-7℃ higher than usual in the last 24 hours. This temperature anomaly is attributed to the absence of a strong Western Disturbance, resulting in a lack of significant rainfall over the region.

Calm Weather in Other Parts of India

No significant weather events are expected in the rest of the country over the next week, as per IMD’s forecast.
