The aim of World Laughter Day is to promote joy, happiness, and global peace by means of laughter. Dr. Madan Kataria, the founder of the global Laughter Yoga Movement, introduced the concept of World Laughter Day.

The first World Laughter Day was observed on May 10, 1998, in Mumbai, India, by a small group of individuals. Today, it is celebrated in numerous places around the world, with people coming together to experience the power of laughing. Laughter is a universal language that crosses all boundaries, and it is a natural stress and tension reliever. With today's hurried and demanding lifestyles, the importance of laughter cannot be stressed.

Laughter promotes not only physical health but also mental agility, creativity, and productivity. Furthermore, laughter is contagious. A simple act of laughter can bring joy and happiness to those who witness it. Laughter fosters social harmony and builds bridges between individuals of different cultures, races, and religions.

World Laughter Day is a time for people around the world to come together and laugh their way to good health and a peaceful world. In today's fast-paced world, people are more prone to anxiety, depression, and other ailments that can bog them down mentally and physically. However, laughter has been proven to help people cope with mental, emotional, and physical challenges.

Laughter is a powerful healer that can instantly change a person's mood. Endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals, are released, promoting sensations of well-being and even momentarily relieving pain. Laughter also stimulates the heart and lungs, increasing circulation and oxygen intake and so strengthening the immune system.

Laughter clubs, comic concerts, street performances, and parades are among the events and activities that take place on this day. Laughter clubs often consist of a group of individuals gathering in public places such as parks to participate in activities and games that generate laughter. On this day, people are also urged to share their laughter with those around them by telling jokes, sharing memes, watching amusing movies, or doing anything else that makes them laugh.
