On Tuesday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai convened a joint meeting at the Delhi Secretariat with officials from the Delhi Parks and Gardens Society, the Wetland Authority of Delhi, the Environment Department, and land-owning agencies to discuss the beautification and repair of the city's lakes.
Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Central Public Works Department, the Public Works Department, the Delhi Development Authority, the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, Revenue, and other departments were also present at the meeting.
The Environmental Minister, who was chairing the meeting, said, "The city of Delhi would be renamed 'City of Lakes.' In the first phase of this project, it was determined to restore and develop 20 lakes in Delhi in accordance with international standards.
The Kejriwal administration is committed to preserving and improving Delhi's lakes. Delhi's natural environment is dominated by its lakes.
They do more than just produce water; they also feed aquatic life and manage the climate. However, due to their current status, it has been decided to resurrect these lakes."
Rai stated that the Wetland Authority of Delhi has completed the mapping of approximately 1,018 lakes out of a total of 1,045 lakes while praising the initiative.
As part of the proposal, the Minister stated, that Delhi will be converted into a city of lakes. The first phase will include the development and beautification of 20 Delhi lakes.
Sanjay Lake, Hauz Khas Lake, Bhalswa Lake, Tikri Khurd Lake, Najafgarh Lake, Najafgarh Lake, Welcome Lake, Daryapur Lake, Poth Kalan (Sardar Sarovar Lake), Mungeshpur, Dheerpur, MP Green Area at Sanjay Van, West Vinod Nagar (Mandawali, Fazalpur), Mandawali Village, Park, Lake, and woodland area in Rajo.
