  • Agri Startups Thrive as Uttar Pradesh Govt Plans Rs 3,800 Crore Investment

    The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled an ambitious plan to enhance the state's agricultural value by investing approximately Rs 3,800 crore in agricultural start-ups during the financial year 2023-24 (FY24). The initiative aims to bolster various sectors including seeds, fertilizers, warehousing, soil nutrients, harvest/post-harvest crop management, and food processing units. Additionally, the scheme covers agricultural and horticultural crops along with allied farm activities such as pisciculture, sericulture, and food processing.

  • Soyabean Acreage Likely to Reduce as Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh Cut Area

    Soyabean acreages witnessed an 18% decline overall as of July 9; Rajasthan and Gujarat experienced a significant rise of 50% and 49% respectively, while Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh reported a substantial decrease of 58% and 4% compared to last year.

  • Express Entry Draw Category Added For Agriculture And Agri-Food Occupations

    In an effort to address shortages in the Canadian labour market, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has launched category-based selection draws for Express Entry candidates. Express Entry candidates with strong French language proficiency or work experience in healthcare, STEM professions, trades, transport, or agriculture and agri-food will be given preference. IRCC has already conducted several draws inviting healthcare workers and those in STEM professions to apply for permanent residency.

  • Tomatoes to be Offered at Discounted Prices in Delhi-NCR

    The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) have been instructed by the Centre to purchase tomatoes from mandis in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra for distribution at discounted rates through retail outlets by the end of this week, which will be a relief to consumers in Delhi-NCR.

  • Trade Forecasts Significant Rise in Cottonseed Oil Output by 2025

    The fourth Cottonseed, Oil and Meal Conclave, was recently held in Aurangabad and jointly organized by the Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA) of India and the All India Cottonseed Crushers' Association (AICOSCA). Production of cottonseed oil would increase from the current 13–14 lakh tonnes (lt) to 15–16 lakh tonnes (lt) by 2025.
