The 2nd China Mango Industry Conference took place on July 3 in Tiandong County, located in Baise City, within the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of south China. The event featured a series of meetings, dialogues, and forums, and also witnessed the release of the first-ever mango price index.

More than 300 officials, experts, scholars, and mango suppliers from all over China gathered to participate in the conference. During the opening ceremony, Li Shanglan, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, highlighted the continuous growth of China's mango industry in recent years. The country's mango sector has experienced a remarkable boom, and the conference aimed to address the challenges and opportunities present in the industry.

Ning Yu, the deputy director of the index division of China Economic Information Service, unveiled the Xinhua-Baise mango price index during the conference. This index is set to act as a reliable indicator for the market price of mangoes and will provide a valuable tool for digital management in the development of the mango industry.

The Guangxi region, known for its subtropical climate and unique geographical conditions, offers an ideal environment for the cultivation of mangoes. Baise City, in particular, benefits from ample sunlight and warmth, creating favourable conditions for the growth of high-quality mangoes.

In 2022, Baise City successfully cultivated over 30 different varieties of mangoes, covering a vast planting area of more than 900,000 hectares. The mango yield from this region reached an impressive 1.25 million tonnes, accounting for almost 30 percent of the total mango planting area and output in the country. The comprehensive output value of Baise City's mango industry amounted to 13.4 billion yuan (approximately 1.86 billion U.S. dollars).

Tiandong County, an essential mango production area within Baise City, played a significant role in the city's success. With a mango planting area of nearly 22,800 hectares, the county achieved an output of 321,000 tonnes in 2022. This year, Tiandong County is projected to witness further growth, with an expected output of 360,000 tonnes of mangoes.
