Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana(PMMSY), the Fisheries department of the Jammu and Kashmir government is providing up to 100% support to young educated girls in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir to set up trout fish farms.

The Scheme to Advance Fisheries sector of country

A flagship scheme aimed at advancing the country's fisheries sector. Around 210 trout fish farms have been built by the department of fisheries in the Anantnag and Kulgam districts, with roughly 20% of them being run by females.

Anantnag district’s girls are benefiting from this plan and are currently earning a considerable amount of money. A piece of land near a body of water can be used for commercial trout farming.

Contribution From UT and Central Government

With the support of this scheme, interested people in the district are stepping forward and forming their units. The central government contributes 60% of the money, while the Union Territory (UT) administration contributes 40%. They have access to everything, including seed, feed, and construction-related work.

The central government and the Jammu and Kashmir fisheries department have been appreciated by the youth who have benefitted from these schemes.

The Department of Fisheries has started giving farmers the necessary equipment, such as motors, nets, and feed.

Mohd Sadiq, Assistant Director of Fisheries Department for Anantnag and Kulgam district, told that the Fisheries Department established 210 trout farms under the PMMSY scheme, with women accounting for 25% of the total.

"Farmers have had a lot of success." "There are farmers who make more than 20 lakh to 30 lakh every year," Sadiq explained.

Shaista Shakeel, a scheme beneficiary, stated that it was tough to get employment due to rising unemployment, but the fisheries department assisted and gave me a subsidiary. "The business is doing well, and I am delighted," she said.

"I want to send a message to all the educated unemployed girls sitting at home looking for work: they can go for this and establish their own business," she continued.

Another beneficiary who sought assistance from the fisheries department stated that she is now happy since she is working.
