Delhi government does an excellent job at maintaining these gardens, some of which are of great historic significance as well. Let us take a look at them.
Lodi Gardens- Lodi Gardens is a city park spread over 90 acres. The garden surrounds the tombs of Mohammed Shah, Sikander Lodi, the Shisha Gumbad, and the Bara Gumbad. The site is now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and is situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung’s Tomb. There is no entry fee for the visitors and the garden is open 7 days a week between 6 AM and 8 PM (timings may change according to the season). This garden is conveniently located near the Jor Bagh Metro Station.
Swarn Jayanti Park (Japanese Garden)- Swarn Jayanti Park, also known as Japanese Garden is the largest park in Rohini with landscape theme gardens like a Japanese garden, Mughal style garden, a sculpture garden, and children’s park with a large exhibition area for the flower show and cultural events. It is free to visit Japanese Park and photography is allowed inside the park. The park opens as early as 6 AM and closes by 8:30 PM. The nearest metro station is Rithala on the Red Line.
Deer Park- Deer Park, also known as Aditya Nath Jha Deer Park is a natural park located in Hauz Khas, New Delhi. This park is spread over 60 acres and is considered one of the largest green areas in New Delhi and is collectively called “the lungs of Delhi.” The Deer Park is divided into four wings: Rose Garden, Deer Park, Fountain and District Park, Old Monuments, and Hauz Khas Art Market.
The park gets its name from the large population of deer that are free to roam around. The park opens at 5 AM and closes by 7 PM. The park is maintained by the Delhi Development Authority and is accessible from Safdarjung Enclave, Hauz Khas Village, and Green Park.
Buddha Garden- Located in Central Ridge Reserve Forest in New Delhi, Buddha Garden was built to celebrate the 2,500th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. The main attraction of the park is the massive Buddha Statue built on an artificial island in the middle of a waterway. The park covers 81 acres of land and is home to more than 100 species of trees and plants. There are several metro stations close to the Buddha Jayanti Garden: Rajendra Place, Central Secretariat, and Karol Bagh.
Garden of five senses- Covering an area of 20 acres, the Garden of Five Senses is a garden that is a paradise for all nature lovers as it is full of flourishing flower beds and magnificent fountains. It features over 100 types of plants and flowers. This garden is open to the public the entire week between 9 AM and 7 PM. There is no free entry and is accessible by Malviya Nagar metro station.
Nehru Park- Nehru Park is one of the largest and most well-maintained parks in New Delhi. It is open all 7 days of the week between 6 Am and 8 PM. The park covers an area of 85 acres and is located relatively close to several embassies. It is a popular hot spot for joggers, walkers, and college students.
National Rose Garden- National Rose Garden is located in Chanakya Puri, New Delhi. It is a popular tourist attraction as this garden is home to some of the rarest varieties of roses from around the globe. It is accessible by two metro stations- Sri M. Vishveswaraiah Moti Bagh and Lok Kalyan Marg.
