The year 2023 was declared The International Millet Year by UNO at the "Eat Right Summit" on the successful efforts of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi as millets came to be called Shri Ann. These are grains that have significant nutritious and numerous health benefits. Millets refer to coarse and small grains that had been staple cereals in some states. They need low irrigation requirements and are less prone to insect and pest infestation.

Famously also known as the " Shri Dhanya " group, which includes Bajra, Kodra, Kangni, Hari Kangni, Kutki, Sanwa, Jowar, Ragi, and China. Millets are a group of small-grained cereal food crops which are highly tolerant to drought and other extreme weather conditions and are grown with low chemical inputs such as fertilisers and pesticides. Most of the millet crops are native to India and are popularly known as nutri-cereals as they provide most of the nutrients required for the normal functioning of the human body.
