Winter is at its peak and we all love to enjoy different types of food in this season.  But many times we face some restrictions as consumption of some particular food items requires a particular time or season.

Many experts suggest that curd must be avoided during the winter months since it might cause cold and sore throat. Is that true, though? Curd is high in probiotics, vitamins, protein, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, among other nutrients. So what's the big deal about avoiding it? Let’s go through different perspectives.

According to Ayurveda:

Curd should be avoided throughout the winter, according to Ayurveda, since it promotes gland production, which in turn increases mucus secretion.

It may be problematic for persons who already have respiratory problems such as asthma, sinusitis, or a cold and cough. As a result, Ayurveda recommends avoiding curd throughout the winter, especially at night.

According to Science:

Curd has a lot of beneficial microorganisms for your gut health. This meal also helps to enhance immunity. Calcium, vitamin B12, and phosphorus are all abundant in this food. Due to these reasons consumption of curd is good for overall health.

Although it is recommended not to consume it in the evening and at night for persons with respiratory disorders, it might cause mucus, especially in people who are allergic or asthmatic.

However, some experts disagree. The dish is high in Vitamin C, making it ideal for those who are sick with a cold. They should keep in mind that it should be served at room temperature. It's preferable to eat curd as soon as it hardens, rather than storing it in the refrigerator.

If you have a cough or cold, you should avoid eating curd since it may worsen your condition. Although, the curd is an easily digestible and rich source of calcium, vitamin B12, and phosphorus. So it would be beneficial for your health. You just need to keep in mind that it must be consumed at room temperature and also try to avoid it at night.
