The monsoon's cool sprinkles awaken our senses from the summer slumber. It is the season for fostering new growth, and by fostering, we mean that your focus should be on your monsoon diet.

During the rainy season, gourds such as bottle gourds, bitter gourds, ash gourds, ridge gourds, snake gourds, and other numerous vegetables are at their peak. Along with gourds, the monsoon harvest includes cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, and okra.

Including a variety of these veggies in your daily diet can aid in immune function and gastrointestinal health. During the monsoon season, however, eating some vegetables may have a detrimental influence on your immune system.

Vegetables to Avoid During Rainy Season

The following vegetables should be avoided during the rainy season:

Green Leafy Vegetables

The monsoon season is ideal for the development of several germs and microorganisms that can easily contaminate green vegetables.

Furthermore, the soil in which they grow may be quite polluted, allowing microorganisms and germs to easily penetrate the leaves of these crops. Plants with more leaves help them find their new home more easily. As a result, it would be advisable to avoid them.

Bell Peppers

Bell peppers are a popular vegetable in summer. They taste great and are high in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. However, including bell peppers in your monsoon diet might be harmful. They contain glucosinolates, which when chopped or eaten, convert into isothiocyanates.

These chemicals may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and respiratory issues when ingested raw or cooked. Typically, the symptoms continue for many hours after eating. As a result, it is best to avoid them altogether.

Eggplant

The purple bulb-like vegetable contains alkaloids, a kind of chemical compound. Many vegetables produce these harmful substances to defend themselves against insects and pests.

Since the greatest bug invasion occurs during the monsoon season, eating eggplant or baingan should be limited. An alkaloid allergy is characterized by hives, itchy skin, nausea, and skin rashes.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower should be avoided during the monsoon season since it contains glucosinolates, which might be troublesome for individuals who are allergic or sensitive to them.
