Since its inception sixty years ago, Mahindra Tractors has been a steadfast partner in the evolution of the modern Indian farmer. Practical, economic, and technological advancements have driven the illustrious milestones achieved by the two through the years. With the tractor count crossing the ‘40 lakh Happy Customers’ mark earlier in the month, there’s much to celebrate and even more to look forward to for the world’s largest tractor manufacturer (by volume).

The core element of Mahindra Tractors achieving this unrivaled feat through the decades has been the constant dialogue it has maintained with its prime demographic: farmers who drive the agricultural economy.

As stated by Hemant Sikka, President, Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., “Driven by our purpose of transforming farming and enriching lives, we take great pride in selling 40 lakh units of the Mahindra Tractor as we celebrate 4 decades of leadership, and 6 decades of Mahindra Tractors, all in the same year. With these milestones, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our customers, the farmers who inspire us every day, as well as our partners and our teams, as we embark on a journey of transformation together.”

Mahindra & Mahindra entered the agricultural sector in 1963 with its first tractor, the Mahindra B-275. Right from then on, the handshake between the evolving Indian farmer and the ever-growing global leader in tractor manufacturing has been firm and mutually profitable. Mahindra Tractors has launched more than 390 tractor models through the years and has established a robust network of 1200+ dealer partners across India, appealing to a wide variety of agricultural needs across the country.

Mahindra Tractor’s growth has been swift, celebrating its 10th, 20th, 30th, and 40th lakh customers in 2004, 2013, 2019, and this year, respectively.

Vikram Wagh, Chief Executive Officer of Mahindra Tractors, expressed, “This is a momentous occasion for all of us. 40 lakh tractor deliveries are a strong testament to the trust that customers have in our brand, built on our purpose, deep understanding of Indian farming, and our global reach.”

While the road this far has been exhilarating as well as bountiful, Mahindra Tractors is treading agricultural frontiers much beyond the borders of the Indian mainland in the present and near future. Having set up a global footprint for itself by partnering, collaborating, and innovating with entities from more than 50 countries worldwide, Mahindra Tractors is now ready to launch its extensive list of products to international markets.

While the US is the largest market outside India for Mahindra Tractors currently, market expansions into the ASEAN and European markets are projected for this year and the next, respectively.

Mr. Wagh continues, "While the past 5 years have been fantastic, where we clocked our fastest million customers, we will continue to respond to the diverse needs of our customers with the widest portfolio of tractors while delivering global-first technologies and unmatched reliability as we enable the farmer to rise.”
