Time to time we come across news regarding the spurious and counterfeit pesticides seizure in the country. These spurious pesticides are not only dangerous for the farmers who are using it in their crops but are also harmful for the consumers.
These spurious pesticides have become a challenge for the agriculture scientists as well as for the manufacturers of the genuine agrochemicals for the growth of the crops.
The Agrochemicals sector has huge unrealized potential for growth, given the presently very low level of application as compared to global norms. To discuss the challenges, opportunities and encouraging judicious use of genuine pesticides and the way forward, FICCI with the support of Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals and Department of Agriculture Cooperation & farmers Welfare, Govt. of India is organizing a Roundtable Meeting on Counterfeit/Spurious pesticides in India on 24th January, 2019 from 1030 hrs to 1600 hrs at Hotel Taj Man Singh, New Delhi.
Krishi Jagran is the Media Partner in the conference and will disseminate information to the interested stakeholders.
There will be the participation of all stakeholders including policy makers, academia, industry, farmers and also from the states where this problem is rampant such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh etc.
FICCI is organizing the Round Table with the objectives:
-
To study the pesticides production and consumption pattern in India;
-
To study the socio-economic implications Counterfeit and illegal pesticides pose risk to water and soil quality and the health of biodiversity;
-
To analysethe pesticides buying behaviour of the farmers and their level of satisfaction towards pest management techniques adopted; and as the content of counterfeit and illegal products is unknown, their use can pose a high-risk to farmers, the environment and crops.
