"Govt Committed to Improve Traditional Medicine Practice By Advancing Evidence-Based Research": Sarbananda Sonowal

The Union Minister for Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, reaffirmed how India has assumed global leadership in the field of Traditional Medicine and emphasized the importance of advancing evidence-based scientific research in the Ayush sector at Unani Day Celebration, New Delhi.

The event, which was held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi to commemorate Unani Day 2023 and the official opening of an international conference, featured the Minister as the Chief Guest. Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai, Union Minister of State for Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Shri Pramod Kumar Pathak, Special Secretary, Dr. M. A. Qasmi, Joint Advisor (Unani), Ministry of Ayush, Prof. Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM, and other Ministry of Ayush representatives also attended the event.

The WHO GCTM was established by India at this time, according to Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal, "under the visionary leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a sign that we are assuming global leadership in Traditional Medicine. In order to support evidence-based research, we must improve our academic infrastructure and research capacity.

The budget for the Ministry of Ayush has been significantly increased in the Union Budget by 20%, he continued, reflecting the Prime Minister's commitment to constructing a strong healthcare system for the holistic patient care system. He added that the Unani system of medicine has gained a lot of support and has expanded since 2014. Our prime minister recently opened the largest unani medical institute, the National Institute of Unani Medicine in Ghaziabad.

Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju addressed the audience and stated, "India's rich traditional system of medicine is the unani system of medicine. We saw firsthand how Ayurvedic treatments helped people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our rich tradition of medicine can provide us with long-term healthcare solutions that will improve the quality of life for people in the nation.

Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai, a minister of state for Ayush, paid tribute to revered freedom fighter Hakim Ajmal Khan. He claimed that in order to maintain health and ward off disease, unani medicine offers comprehensive recommendations for a healthy diet. The Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, spoke about the crucial role that NABH QCI quality certification could play in increasing the acceptance of Ayush systems.

He stated that the Ministry of Ayush's goal is to have 12,500 Ayush Wellness Centers certified at the entry level by NABH by the end of 2023. On this occasion, a number of Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) publications, an online journal, and conference mementos were released. Two CCRUM institutes also received NABH certificates. Today also saw the release of a mobile app created by CCRUM that details common Unani Medicine treatments.

A two-day international conference on unani medicine is being held in hybrid format by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine. The conference is attended by about 1300 delegates, resource people, academicians, researchers, and business representatives.
