Jute Mark India: Pioneering Collective Identity and Quality Assurance for Traditional Jute Products

The introduction of the Jute Mark India Logo and the launch of the National Jute Development Program mark significant steps toward ensuring the sustainability and growth of the jute sector in India.

In a significant move to enhance the authenticity and quality assurance of Jute Products, the Ministry of Textiles introduced the Jute Mark India Logo on July 9, 2022. The initiative aims to provide a collective identity for traditional jute and jute diversified products, assuring consumers of their origin and quality. Currently, 55 vendors have registered to avail the Jute Mark India Logo.

To further strengthen the jute sector, the Government has approved the National Jute Development Program (NJDP) with a total outlay of Rs 485.58 crore for implementation from 2021-22 to 2025-26. The comprehensive umbrella scheme covers various initiatives for the overall development and promotion of the Jute Sector.

  1. Improved Cultivation and Advanced Retting Exercise (Jute ICARE):

    • Introduction of scientific methods for jute cultivation and retting exercises.

    • Aims to enhance fiber quality, increase productivity, and reduce the cost of jute production, thereby boosting farmers' income.

  2. Jute Resource cum Production Centre (JRCPC):

    • Focuses on spreading jute diversification by providing training to new artisans and women self-help groups (WSHGs).

    • Aims to create sustained employment for the production of Jute Diversified Products (JDPs).

  3. Jute Raw Material Bank (JRMB):

    • Supplies jute raw materials to jute artisans and MSMEs at the Mill Gate price, supporting the production of JDPs.

4. Jute Retail Outlets (JRO) Scheme:

    • Facilitates artisans and entrepreneurs for the promotion and sale of JDPs through retail outlets and showrooms.

5. Jute Design Resource Centre (JDRC):

    • Focuses on designing and developing innovative jute diversified products.

    • Supports existing and new JDP manufacturers and exporters.

6. Product Diversification (R&D) Studies:

    • Explores Research & Development in textile and non-textile applications of jute.

7. Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme:

    • Supports Jute Mills and MSME JDP units for manufacturing and exporting JDPs, making them competitive in international markets.

8. Capital Subsidy for Acquisition of Plant & Machinery (CSAPM):

    • Aims to facilitate the modernization and upgradation of existing Jute mills and MSME JDP units.

9. Market Development Promotion activities (Domestic & Exports):

    • Supports JDP units in promoting and selling products in the domestic market.

    • Assists registered jute exporters to boost the export of jute goods.

10. Scholarship Scheme for the girl children of the workers of jute mills, JDP-MSMEs:

    • Provides incentives to support the education of girl children of Jute Mills/MSME-JDP Unit workers.
