The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, achieved a significant milestone at the 42nd India International Trade Fair (IITF) held at Pragati Maidan from November 14 to 27, 2023. The 'Khadi Pavilion' in Hall No. 3 witnessed an unprecedented surge in sales, marking a historic achievement for KVIC.

For the first time in KVIC's history, the sales of Khadi and village industry products at IITF surpassed expectations, reaching an impressive Rs 15.03 crore. Khadi enthusiasts flocked to the pavilion, making substantial purchases during the 14-day international trade fair.

KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar attributed this remarkable success to the resounding impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local' campaign. He highlighted that the citizens of Delhi, influenced by the campaign, contributed significantly to the record-breaking sales figure of Rs 15.03 crore. This marked a 25 percent increase from the previous year's sales of Rs 12.06 crore at IITF 2022.

Chairman Kumar emphasized that this achievement is a testament to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in promoting 'New Khadi of New India,' aligning with the vision of a Self-reliant India. The Khadi Pavilion was honored with the Special Commendation Medal Award by the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), recognizing its exceptional contribution to the trade fair.

The closing ceremony on November 27 saw Chairman Manoj Kumar awarding the first, second, and third prizes based on sales at IITF 2023. TNR Silk Khadi of Karnataka secured the first prize with sales worth Rs 4,408,870, followed by Nazneen Silk Khadi Industries of Karnataka in the second position with sales of Rs 3,076,600. Shirin Silk Khadi Village Industries Association of Karnataka claimed the third position with sales figures of Rs 2,253,570.

Consolation prizes were also awarded to 10 stalls based on their sales performance. Additionally, certificates were presented to 214 Khadi and Village Industries organizations, PMEGP, and SFURTI units from across the country, acknowledging their participation in the Khadi India Pavilion.

The Khadi India Pavilion showcased the rich heritage, craftsmanship, and handicrafts of India through 214 stalls. More than 40% of the stalls were dedicated to institutions involved in Khadi manufacturing, while the rest featured products from Gramodyog, PMEGP, and SFURTI units. Chairman Kumar expressed pride in the positive impact of the historic Rs 15.03 crore sale, providing newfound strength to artisans in rural India.

The pavilion's exhibits, including the indigenous charkha, electric-powered pottery wheel, live demonstrations, and innovative products, captivated the audience. The enthusiastic response, particularly among the youth, was evident in the trend of taking selfies at the pavilion's selfie point, featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
