On Thursday, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved the introduction of the Water Conservation Policy for the Chief Minister, worth ₹ 1,340.75 crore. Water sources will be repaired under the programme, which will improve the State's irrigation capacity.

A media release said the program duration is from April 2020 to March 2023. Many water sources have been generated by job guarantee schemes in the last 30 to 40 years to overcome drought. However, it is not being used to its maximum capacity due to a lack of routine maintenance. 7,916 have to be fixed from the completed sources, and water supply and irrigation capability need to be rebuilt.

If these are rebuilt, at full capacity, water would be available.

A variety of reservoirs and lakes with an irrigation capacity of up to 600 hectares will be repaired under the scheme. In addition, canal restoration work will also be performed due to the breakage of its casing.
