This initiative involves arranging a multitude of events nationwide to honour illustrious figures. Commencing on August 9, the campaign will culminate with a closing ceremony on August 30.

The upcoming August 15 marks the 77th Independence Day celebration for the country. This year's commemoration holds particular significance due to the introduction of the 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' initiative by the government. Scheduled to kick off on August 9 and lasting until Independence Day, this campaign aims to foster patriotic sentiments and unity among the citizens. Unlike the previous year's 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan' which saw widespread flag hoisting, the 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' campaign's details and objectives are yet to be fully disclosed. Nonetheless, it is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing the festive spirit of independence.​

What Is 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' Campaign And Its Objective? 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' campaign during his 103rd 'Mann Ki Baat' radio show episode on July 30. This initiative is designed to pay tribute to heroes through nationwide programs and the installation of memorial plaques, known as shilaphalakams, near Amrit Sarovars. The Prime Minister emphasized the campaign's significance as part of the ongoing Amrit Mahotsav celebrations and as a way to honor the contributions of brave individuals. The campaign starts on August 9 and extends until Independence Day, August 15, 2023, followed by additional events at various levels from August 16. The campaign will culminate with a concluding ceremony on August 30, 2023, at Kadhwati Path, New Delhi, attended by notable dignitaries.

The initiative's objective is to pay tribute to the courageous freedom fighters and individuals who made significant sacrifices for the nation. According to Apoorva Chandra, the Secretary of the Department of Information & Broadcasting and Telecom, 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' stands as the culmination of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating India's 75 years of independence. Chandra noted the remarkable success of last year's nationwide 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign and highlighted the launch of another ambitious program this year, 'Meri Mati Mera Desh,' as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav festivities.

Why Meri Mati Mera Desh Campaign Is Important?

The Prime Minister announced the launch of a comprehensive campaign aimed at honoring the nation's immortal martyrs. This initiative includes numerous nationwide programs and the installation of special inscriptions in countless village panchayats, commemorating the lives of these heroic individuals. One of the campaign's highlights is the 'Amrit Kalash Yatra,' which will transport soil and saplings from all corners of the country to the National War Memorial, creating an 'Amrit Vatika' symbolizing unity. Apoorva Chandra, Secretary of the Department of Information & Broadcasting and Telecommunications, highlighted the importance of paying tribute to heroes through actions like setting up plaques, respecting the soil, and saluting these valiant individuals.

The campaign will also involve various programs, such as Shilaphalakam installations and initiatives like Panch Pran Pratigya, Vasudha Vandan, and Veeron Ka Vandan, which acknowledge the sacrifices of our heroes. The program's timeline spans from August 9 to 30, 2023, encompassing events at village, block, local urban bodies, state, and national levels.

Portal And Website Launched For The Meri Mati Mera Desh Campaign 

The Culture Secretary has introduced a new website, merimaatimaredesh.gov.in to foster public engagement. Through this platform, individuals can share their selfies while holding clay or earthen lamps, symbolizing their commitment to shaping a developed India and discarding a subservient mentality. This action also signifies pride in the nation's cultural heritage, fostering unity, fulfilling civic responsibilities, and expressing gratitude to those safeguarding the country. The website facilitates the Pancha Prana pledge for focused dedication. A digital certificate of participation is available for download after taking the pledge.

Mita Rajeevlochan, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, emphasized that young people can actively participate by uploading their activities, including selfies and tree planting, on the portal. The youth are encouraged to enthusiastically join this nationwide endeavour, paying tribute to the heroes of the nation.
