In a historic moment, Neeraj Chopra, the world's number one javelin thrower from India, secured a gold medal at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, on October 4th. He achieved this remarkable feat with a season-best throw of 88.88 meters. This victory allowed Chopra to successfully defend his title and maintain his top-ranking position in the world, which he clinched with his outstanding throw of 88.88 meters in the final attempt. Kishore Jena from India claimed the silver medal with a best throw of 87.54 meters.

The Athletics Federation of India celebrated their achievements on social media, sharing images of Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena with the caption, "JAVELIN...While @Neeraj_chopra1 defends his title. Kishore Kumar Jena wins silver #AsianGames."

President Droupadi Murmu addressed the occasion by extending her congratulations to Neeraj and expressed her joy over India's record-breaking medal tally at the Asian Games. In her message, she stated, "I'm thrilled to announce that India has achieved its highest-ever medal count in the Asian Games." President Murmu also commended the remarkable achievements of Ojas Pravin Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who secured the gold medal in the compound mixed team event.

She gave special recognition to Neeraj Chopra for his gold medal in the javelin throw event and applauded the Indian men's team for their outstanding performance in the 4x400m relay event.
