Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed a gathering of newly recruited officers in the agriculture department, urging them to prioritize the empowerment of farmers in the state. The 'Nijukti Parba' (appointment meet) saw a total of 406 officers joining the Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment Department, a move expected to provide a significant boost to the sector.

Patnaik emphasized that the agriculture and allied sector remains the top priority for his government. Over the years, Odisha has transformed from a food deficit state to a net food supplier to the nation's public distribution system.

This growth in food production has been achieved through various initiatives, and the government continues to work towards further enhancing the income of farmers while empowering them.

The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of schemes like KALIA (Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation) and BALARAM (Bhoomihina Agriculturist Loan and Resources Augmentation Model), which have instilled confidence and trust among farmers.

These programs have provided crucial financial and livelihood support to farmers, fostering agricultural activity and product diversification. Moreover, farm mechanization has become a renewed focus for the state government, aiming to boost productivity and optimize the utilization of Odisha's limited natural resources.

Through the Mukhya Mantri Krushi Udyog Yojana, the government is actively encouraging local youth to venture into entrepreneurship within the agricultural sector, creating further opportunities for growth and development. During the event, 261 individuals were appointed as assistant agriculture officers, 102 as assistant agriculture engineers, and 43 officials joined the Odisha State Seeds Corporation.

Patnaik stressed the pivotal role of the Odisha State Seeds Corporation in ensuring that farmers have access to high-quality seeds at the right time. Quality seeds play a vital role in determining crop yields and overall agricultural productivity.
