Weather Update: Yellow Warning Issued! Cyclone Mocha Likely to Make Landfall in Odisha Today

On Saturday, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal. On Sunday, a low-pressure area is expected to emerge over the same area as a result of its effect.

Yellow Warning Issued! Cyclone Mocha Likely to Make Landfall in Odisha Today

According to the weather service, it is expected to strengthen into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal on Monday. It is expected to grow further into a cyclonic storm as it moves approximately northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal.

Tropical storm Mocha is likely to make landfall in regions of Odisha and West Bengal within the next 4-5 days. After the creation of a low-pressure region, the details of its route and intensification will be presented. The system is constantly monitored and under constant surveillance.

IMD's 4-Day Weather Advisory for Fishermen

  • The South Bay of Bengal and Conmorin area are expected to experience squally weather, so fishermen should avoid these regions.

  • Fishermen are cautioned against entering the South Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas, as squally weather is anticipated.

  • The likelihood of squally weather over the South Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, means that fishermen should stay away from these locations.

Odisha and West Bengal, both cyclone-prone states, are prepared for the emergency. Due to the forecast of a cyclonic storm, the Odisha government ordered collectors in 18 coastal and surrounding districts to be prepared for any eventuality on Friday.

A Yellow rain and thunderstorm warning has been issued for various Odisha districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Puri.

Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu instructed the districts in the state government recommendation to be prepared for any scenario.

People were advised to monitor the weather and seek safe cover during the storms, as well as to heed traffic advisories in metropolitan areas.
