Mahaparinirvan Diwas: PM Modi Pays Tribute to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Recalls his Exemplary Service to the Nation

On the 66th "Mahaparinirvan Diwas", Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Babasaheb Ambedkar on Tuesday at the Parliamentary lawn premises in national capital New Delhi.

"On Mahaparinirvan Diwas, I pay homage to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and recall his exemplary service to our nation. His struggles gave hope to millions and his efforts to give India such an extensive Constitution can never be forgotten", he said in a recent tweet.

 

Apart from PM Modi, President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, and other leaders also paid respects at the statue of the chief architect of Indian Constitution inside the Parliament.

BR Ambedkar, a significant social reformer, economist, politician, academician, and recipient of the Bharat Ratna, was honored by a number of leaders and ministers. Dr. S. Jaishankar, the external minister, thanked Baba Bhimrao for building the solid groundwork for a contemporary and inclusive India in his tweet.

"Pay my homage to Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his #MahaparinirvanDiwas. The strong foundation for a modern and inclusive India laid down by him helps us strive towards a just and fair society", he wrote.

 

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "I pay tribute to a leading light of our freedom movement, social reformer, champion of equality, chief architect of Indian Constitution and India’s first Minister for Law & Justice, Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Ji on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas".

 

Further, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh paid his respects to Ambedkar via his tweet that read, "Babasaheb said that life should be wonderful rather than lengthy. On the occasion of his Mahaparinirvan Divas, I offer my respects to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the respected and extraordinarily talented author of the Indian Constitution."

 

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote, "Bharat Ratna, Dr BR Ambedkar ideals gave shape to the idea of equality, justice and socio-economic growth of India. My humble tributes to the Architect of the Constitution on his #MahaparinirvanDiwas."

 

Minister Kiren Rijiju also paid homage to the latter saying, "On #MahaparinirvanDiwas, tributes to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who empowered the person standing in the last line of the society through the Constitution. My heartfelt tributes to Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Ambedkar on his death anniversary."

 

On the other hand, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla wrote, "Regards to Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the legendary jurist who created the constitution, on the #Mahaparinirvan Diwas. He left the nation with this priceless legacy in the shape of the Indian Constitution, which set the road for democracy to flourish, thereby guaranteeing equality, justice, freedom, and brotherhood in the community."

 

About Mahaparinirvan Diwas

The day of Ambedkar's passing, December 6, 1956, is remembered as Mahaparinirvan Diwas to honor him. Dr Ambedkar is remembered as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and the first law minister of Independent India. In Buddhism, the term "parinirvan" refers to someone who has gained total salvation or enlightenment. Ambedkar had adopted Buddhism and had led the charge for the advancement of the underprivileged and disadvantaged sections of society. In order to help Dalits and other underprivileged groups, he also introduced the nation to the reservation system.
