In a significant milestone for affordable healthcare in India, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) has achieved a historic feat by selling medicines worth Rs. 1000 Crore in the current fiscal year. This accomplishment underscores the success of the PMBJP in providing cost-effective generic medicines to the people of India.

The success of the PMBJP is attributed to the active participation of the people of the country, who have collectively saved approximately 5000 crores by choosing to purchase medicines from Jan Aushadhi Kendras. These Kendras, established in more than 785 districts across India, have become crucial in making quality healthcare accessible to a wider audience.

Exponential Growth in Kendras: A Testament to Commitment

Over the past nine years, the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has experienced remarkable growth, increasing from a mere 80 in 2014 to nearly 10,000 today. This expansion aligns with PMBJP's commitment to serving diverse communities and reaching a broader audience with affordable and quality healthcare.

In his Independence Day speech in 2023, the Prime Minister announced plans for opening 25,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) across the country. This vision became a reality with the virtual launch of the 10,000th Janaushadhi Kendra at AIIMS, Deoghar, Jharkhand on November 30, 2023.

Toward Wider Outreach and Accessibility

The inauguration of the 10,000th Kendra marked a significant step toward achieving the target of 25,000 Kendras by March 2026. The government has set forth plans to make medicines easily accessible to people across the nation by opening new Janaushadhi Kendras in all districts.

To further facilitate the expansion, online applications are invited for opening new Janaushadhi Kendras through the official website of PMBI (www.janaushadhi.gov.in). For any inquiries or communication, individuals can contact the national toll-free number: 1800 180 8080.

Boosting Immunity with Ayurvedic Products

Under the PMBJP scheme, there are currently more than 10,000 functional Janaushadhi Kendras offering a product basket that includes 1963 medicines and 293 surgical devices. These cover a wide range of therapeutic groups, including Cardiovascular, Anti-cancers, Anti-diabetics, Anti-infectives, Anti-allergic, Gastro-intestinal medicines, and Nutraceuticals.

In response to the growing demand for immunity-boosting products, PMBJP has expanded its product basket to include a variety of Ayurvedic products. These additions aim to provide affordable options for enhancing immunity and ensuring the well-being of the people.
