A well-developed cold chain infrastructure is essential to the supply chain because it handles the transportation and storage of temperature-sensitive goods, like pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and perishable food items, at controlled temperatures. This is especially true in light of India's rapid growth.
A startling one-third of the food produced for human consumption, or 1.3 billion tonnes, is lost or wasted, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Realizing the importance of cold chain infrastructure, the Keralan government has put in place several programs and incentives to encourage its growth, including funding for cold chain technology research.
