In India, achieving food and nutrition security is a top priority. One of the most important paths to establishing a more resilient and improved food system is to realign relevant policies. While India has separate policies for agriculture, food security, and nutrition, a food systems approach necessitates more coordinated attention in order to put planned plans into action.
The importance of addressing food issues in a systematic manner is becoming more widely recognised. Synergies and trade-offs across sectors such as livelihoods, the environment, and health are not insignificant, and working in silos risks stalling progress in one area while causing setbacks in others. The agenda for strengthening food systems for nutrient-rich crops in India is understandably big and complex, with numerous players involved. Not only is consistent progress at the state and local levels required, but so must agreement on the route forward.
In this context, FICCI is hosting a Global Summit on Strengthening Food Systems for Nutrient-Rich Crops on July 19, 2023, at the Hotel The Lalit in Barakhamba, New Delhi. With insights from government and industry, the symposium will focus on malnutrition and rising nutrition insecurity, as well as a call for collaborative action on a food system approach to improving our nutrition indicators. It would bring together representatives from many organisations in the health, nutrition, agricultural, climate action, gender, and sustainability sectors to discuss a comprehensive approach to boosting nutrition for the future.
