Rakesh Tikait, the leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), has dismissed rumours that the union is supporting any political party ahead of the assembly elections in five states. "We will not support anyone in this election," said Tikait, who arrived to Magh Mela on Tuesday to attend a three-day 'Chintan Shivir' of farmers at Parade Ground.

After BKU president Naresh Tikait urged for support for the Rashtriya Lok Dal-Samajwadi Party combination in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, he made his statement. After meeting with BJP's Sanjeev Balyan in Sisauli for a few hours, the BKU chief retracted his stance and stated that he is not supporting anyone.

They discussed the farmers' difficulties at the farmers' 'Chintan Shivir,' according to Rakesh Tikait.
"A three-day brainstorming session was held to examine issues concerning farmers and the organisation," Rakesh Tikait stated.

The BKU leader also voiced dissatisfaction with the government, stating that commitments had not been kept.

"The administration had pledged to appoint a committee during the countrywide farmers' protest. That hasn't happened. Several of our colleagues were sentenced to prison as a result of the Lakhimpur Kheri event, yet MoS Home Ajay Kumar Mishra is still on the job. This is a significant problem. There are problems with grain procurement. These were the subjects that were covered at the meeting "Rakesh Tikait expressed his thoughts.

He also claimed that the "crowning glory" of the 13-month farmers' protest over three agricultural laws that have since been repealed is that political parties "now think about them."
