National Conclave on 6 years of GST

On July 1, 2023, it will be six years after the Goods and Services Tax (GST) harmonised most of India's indirect tax legislation. The purpose of GST was to streamline India's indirect tax structure, with the idea of 'One nation, one tax'. The implementation of GST is undeniably a watershed moment in Indian history.

The six-year journey of this reform has been exhilarating and transformative for both the government and industry.  The highest-ever GST collection in April 2023 suggests a positive trend, indicating increased domestic demand and, as a result, growth in the Indian economy.

We applaud the government for emphasising technology, including advanced data analytics, and for the surge in compliances, which has resulted in a continual increase in monthly GST collections. The GST rules and rate slabs are expected to be rejigged in the coming years, as the GST Council has already entrusted a Group of Ministers (GoM) with recommending measures to increase revenue through rationalising tax rates.

As a result, in order to address recent GST advancements with industry members, ASSOCHAM is organising a National Conclave on "6 Years of GST - Transforming the Indirect Taxation System" on July 5, 2023.
