Agriculture and allied activites is an important sector for the Indian economy. It supports more than 50 per cent of the country’s population and is the backbone of indian economy. A number of private sector companies are active in the field of agriculture and agri-business, directly engaging with the farmers and improving their farm incomes.
While most of these initiatives are quite successful, they are limited to specific geographical regions, crops and a limited number of farmers. On the other hand, the government has increased funding to farmers through a variety of schemes/subsidies for improving productivity/market linkages, etc.
There is tremendous scope for facilitating large-scale integrated projects, led by private sector players in the agriculture and allied sectors, with a view to aggregating farmers, and integrating the agricultural supply chain, with financial assistance through various government schemes supported by National Level Agencies. The objective is to harness the capabilities of the private sector in combination with public funding, to achieve integrated and sustainable outcomes, as also to achieve value chain integration and additional private investment in agriculture.
In line with the above thinking, FICCI proposes to host a one-day Conference on "Scope of Public-Private Partnerships in Agriculture", in association with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, GOI on 12 July 2022 at FICCI, Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi.
